Namecheap domain broker service alternative for taken names

DomainAgent is a Namecheap domain broker alternative for buyers who want a name that is already registered and not for sale. Namecheap Market sells names their owners have listed, at the owner's price, and Namecheap does not offer a buy side broker who contacts the owner of an unlisted name for you. Our AI Buy Agent does that work: it finds a public contact channel, prices the name from real sales, negotiates inside the band you approve and closes through licensed escrow, for one flat plan with no commission.

Enter the domain you want. You see its status, a value range from comparable sales and a suggested opening offer before you pay anyone.

First check without an account. Every binding offer waits for your click.

The short answer if the name is registered at Namecheap

Namecheap is a registrar and runs Namecheap Market, a self serve marketplace where owners list names at a fixed price. Its help center lists a flat 10 percent commission on each Market Buy Now sale. If the name you want is listed there, buy it there. If it is not listed, nobody at Namecheap will approach the owner and negotiate for you.

That second case is the common one. Most taken names are parked or unused, sit behind WHOIS privacy and have no price tag. DomainAgent reaches the owner through the privacy forwarding address or the domain's own site, writes as DomainAgent acting for a client, and keeps your name out of the talks. The Investor plan is 99 USD per month, or 49 USD per month billed yearly, with 5 negotiations at a time and no fee per domain.

Namecheap Market, a percentage broker and DomainAgent side by side

The rows below use Namecheap's help center, GoDaddy's US broker page and Sedo's brokerage page as of October 2026, plus our own pricing. Escrow costs are left out because they depend on the escrow provider and the amount.

Namecheap MarketPercentage broker such as GoDaddy or SedoDomainAgent Buy Agent

The honest reading: when a name is listed on Namecheap Market at a price you accept, the Market is the cheapest route and you need no broker at all. The agent earns its keep on everything else.

What a taken name costs through each route

Take a 12,000 USD name that is registered at Namecheap and not listed anywhere. Namecheap Market cannot help, so the real choice is a percentage broker or a flat plan.

RouteFees on a 12,000 USD dealIf the owner never sells
GoDaddy Domain Broker Service 99.99 USD plus 2,400 USD commission, about 2,500 USD 99.99 USD lost
Sedo buy side brokerage 99 USD plus 2,400 USD commission, about 2,499 USD 99 USD lost
DomainAgent Investor, two months monthly $198 What you paid for the months used, and the plan keeps working on other names

On a 3,000 USD name the gap is smaller, about 700 USD in broker fees against 198 USD. On a 40,000 USD name it is more than 8,000 USD. A percentage fee grows with the price, so a broker paid that way earns more when you pay more. A flat plan removes that pull. Every plan limit is on our pricing page.

How the agent reaches an owner behind Namecheap WHOIS privacy

Namecheap includes free WHOIS privacy on most domains, so a lookup usually shows a privacy service instead of the owner's name, with a forwarding email address. Mail sent to that address reaches the owner. Many buyers try it once, get no reply and give up.

The agent treats that address as one channel among several. It checks whether the domain has a live site with a contact page, whether a for-sale page or marketplace listing exists elsewhere, and whether the owner has an older public listing for the same name. It writes a short, plain first message that says who is asking (DomainAgent for a client), what is being asked and how to opt out, then follows up at a polite pace if your sequence includes it. When the owner says no or asks to stop, it stops.

Our page on how to buy a domain that is taken covers the same steps for names at any registrar.

When you do not need a broker at all

We would rather send you to the cheaper route than sell you a plan you do not need. Skip the broker when:

  • The exact name is listed on Namecheap Market at a price you accept
  • The name is about to expire and the owner has not renewed it, in which case a backorder is the better tool, see our expiring domains page
  • A close variant is available to register today and you are happy with it
  • You only want to know what the name is worth, which the free first check above already shows

When an AI broker beats a registrar marketplace

The agent pays off once any of these is true:

  • The name is registered and not listed, so a marketplace has nothing to sell you
  • The listed price is far above recent sales of similar names and you want to make a lower offer
  • You have a shortlist of three to five names and would take whichever owner sells first
  • You do not want the owner to learn who is buying, because a known company name pushes prices up
  • You buy names more than once a year for a startup, agency or portfolio

For five or six figure names with a brand behind them, our premium domain broker page explains how the agent handles longer talks and larger escrow.

How the Buy Agent gets a name from a Namecheap owner

  1. 01

    Check the domain

Enter the name above. You see whether it is registered, how it is used, whether a for-sale listing exists, a value range from comparable sales and a suggested opening offer. No account is needed for the first check.

  2. 02

    Set your band

Pick an opening offer and a walk away price. The agent never goes above the walk away price, and nothing binding goes out without your click.

  3. 03

Let the agent reach the owner

The agent uses the privacy forwarding address, the domain's own site or a listing, and writes as DomainAgent acting for a client.

  4. 04

    Approve and close in escrow

When the owner agrees inside your band, you approve, pay into licensed escrow, and the owner pushes the name to you. If you both use Namecheap, that is an account to account push that takes minutes. Funds go to the seller only after you confirm the name arrived.

Questions

Questions buyers ask about Namecheap and brokers

Something else on your mind? Write to support@domainagent.ai.

Does Namecheap have a domain broker service?

Namecheap's help center describes Namecheap Market, a marketplace for names their owners have listed, and we could not find a Namecheap service that approaches the owner of an unlisted name for a buyer. For names that are not listed, you need a broker or an AI agent that contacts the owner and negotiates.

How do I buy a domain registered with Namecheap that is not for sale?

Find a working contact channel, usually the privacy forwarding address in WHOIS or the domain's own site, then make a short, honest offer based on comparable sales. DomainAgent does this for you inside a price band you set, and the deal closes through licensed escrow.

How much commission does Namecheap Market charge?

Namecheap's help center lists a flat 10 percent commission on each Namecheap Market Buy Now transaction. The listed price is what the buyer pays, and the commission comes out of the sale. There is no negotiation step on a Buy Now listing.

Can I contact the owner of a Namecheap domain with privacy on?

Yes. Namecheap's privacy service shows a forwarding email address in WHOIS, and mail sent there reaches the owner. Owners often ignore a single message, so a clear first offer and one polite follow up get more replies than repeated mail.

Is an AI domain broker cheaper than a human broker?

On most deals, yes. GoDaddy and Sedo charge about 100 USD up front plus 20 percent of the price. DomainAgent charges a flat plan from 49 USD per month billed yearly, with no commission, so the saving grows with the price of the name.

Will the owner know who is buying?

No. The agent writes as DomainAgent acting for a client. Your name and company come up only when you choose to share them for the transfer.
