The three costs that sink a portfolio
Domain investing looks simple on paper: buy names below their worth, sell them to people who need them. In practice three costs quietly decide whether the business works.
The first is waiting. Listing names and hoping a buyer finds them leaves most of the inventory idle. The second is renewals. Every name costs money every year, and most portfolios carry a long tail of names that will never sell. The third is commission. When a sale finally comes through a typical broker, 10 to 20 percent of it goes in fees, often with an up-front charge on top.
DomainAgent attacks all three at once. Outbound selling shortens the wait, renew or drop advice trims the tail, and a flat plan replaces commission.
Sell inventory with personal outbound
The domain selling agent looks for end users rather than other investors: companies whose name or product matches the domain, businesses using a weaker version of it, and companies advertising on the keyword. Each one gets a message written for them, sent from your connected work mailbox, with a clear sender identity and a one-click opt-out.
You set a floor per name. The agent opens high, steps down toward the floor in the increments you approve, and never goes below it. When a buyer agrees, you click approve and a licensed escrow partner handles the money.
Outbound has limits that protect your mailbox: daily send caps and gradual warm-up keep sending volumes sensible, and every opt-out joins a suppression list shared across all accounts. Read the full rules on how the agent stays inside the rules.
Save money with renew or drop advice
Import your names as a CSV or registrar export and the Portfolio Agent values every one from public comparable sales. Before each renewal date it recommends renew or drop and shows why: value range, renewal cost, offers received, recent sales of similar names. You make the call; the agent never renews or drops anything by itself.
| Portfolio size | Average renewal | Yearly renewals | If 20 percent are dropped |
|---|---|---|---|
| 300 names | $11 | $3,300 | Saves about 660 USD a year |
| 1,500 names | $11 | $16,500 | Saves about 3,300 USD a year |
| 6,000 names | $11 | $66,000 | Saves about 13,200 USD a year |
These are illustrations, not promises. Your savings depend on how many names you agree to drop after reading the advice. Our guide to domain portfolio management covers the reasoning behind the renew or drop call.
Catch expiring and pending delete names
Buying well matters as much as selling well. The Drop Agent watches names in their expiry grace period, redemption and pending delete against your criteria (length, extension, category words, comparable sales, age), scores each match and builds a daily shortlist.
You set a monthly budget for backorders and auctions plus a cap per name. You place each backorder or bid where you choose, and the agent tracks budget and timing. Names you win go straight into your portfolio for valuation and a for-sale page.
For-sale pages and inbound offers
Every name you want to sell can get its own for-sale landing page generated by the Portfolio Agent. When offers arrive, the agent scores each one as a likely real buyer or a likely tire kicker, so you spend time on the right conversations. Serious offers can go straight to the Sell Agent for negotiation inside your floor.
Which plan fits your portfolio
Pick the plan by the size of your inventory and how much outbound you want to run each month.
| Limit per billing period | Pro | Portfolio |
|---|---|---|
| Domains in portfolio | 1,000 | 10,000 |
| For-sale landing pages | 250 | 2,500 |
| New buyer contacts per month | 300 | 1,500 |
| Outreach and reply emails per month | 1,000 | 5,000 |
| Active negotiations at once | 25 | 100 |
| Drop Agent watch criteria | 15 | 50 |
| Price billed yearly | 149 USD a month (1,788 USD a year) | 499 USD a month (5,988 USD a year) |
Pro suits an investor with up to 1,000 names and a steady trickle of outbound. Portfolio suits larger inventories and investors who sell actively across many names at once. A very small portfolio under 100 names can start on Investor at 49 USD a month billed yearly. Every plan counts usage per billing period, deleting never frees quota, and you see an upgrade prompt at 80 percent of any limit.
A short walkthrough
Say you hold 850 names, mostly two word .coms, and renew everything each year. You import your registrar export onto Pro. The Portfolio Agent flags 170 names as drop candidates over the coming year, and you agree with 140 of them, cutting about 1,540 USD from renewals at 11 USD a name.
You pick 30 names you believe in and set a floor on each. The Sell Agent finds 260 end user prospects across them over two months, within the 300 new contacts Pro allows each month. Eleven conversations turn into offers, four reach your floor or above, and you approve two sales. Both close through escrow with no commission taken.
Meanwhile two Drop Agent criteria surface a handful of aged names each morning. You backorder three within your monthly budget and win one.
